Q: I downloaded my course map, but now I can't find it! What do I do?

Q: How do I open, view, or use my downloaded map?
A: Very Important! You must download and install the FREE
Golfwits PC software to your desktop PC.
Golfwits maps cannot be used without Golfwits PC installed.
If you downloaded your course map and do not know where it was saved to,
you can login to your myGolfwits account and re-download the course map without
having to pay again for it. Here is what you need to do:
Re-downloading your map
1. Login to your myGolfwits account
2. Select the 'Maps in my library' link
3. Open the State folder and select the 'Download' link for the course
4. From the File Download dialog box, select the 'Save' button
5. From the Save As dialog box, select the Save in drop down list
6. Select Local Disk (C:) | Program Files | Siscosoft | GolfwitsPC | Courses
7. Select the 'Save' button
Opening and viewing your course map
1. Open Golfwits PC on your desktop: select Start | Programs | Siscosoft | Golfwits PC 2.0
2. Select your course from the drop down list (you should see Homestead... and your course
Note: if you do not see your course, select View | Refresh, then select your course
3. Select File | New and enter your name in the Golfer Profile dialog box and hit OK
You should be looking at hole number 1 of your course!
Q: I have map credits. How come I can't download maps?
A: You may need to delete your cookies. The Golfwits cookie on your desktop
may be corrupt and that is why you are not able to access your downloads. You
can try these three solutions:
1. Logout of your myGolfwits account and then re-login.
That may fix the problem or
2. Delete your cookies and then login to your myGolfwits account.
Or you may need to:
3. Make sure you have your browser configured to accept cookies, and if
you have 3rd party filtering software such as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security,
AdDelete, StarWare, etc. installed on your machine, make sure it is configured to work
with the Golfwits.com website. If you have IE 6.xx, cookie settings can be adjusted by
selecting the following menu items:
1. Tools
2. Internet Options
3. Privacy
4. Advanced
5. Override automatic cookie handling
Q: If I purchase a map pack, do I have to select all the maps now?
A: No, you do not have to select all the maps now. The purpose of the map pack is
to allow you to purchase a large quantity of maps and reduce your per map cost.
When you purchase a map pack, map credits are added to your myGolfwits account.
These credits get used up as you download the courses you want. 1 credit = 1 map
download. If you purchase a Map Pack of 5, five map credits are added to your
myGolfwits account and remain there until you use them up.
Q: How do I install maps onto the PC version of Golfwits?
A: When you download a course map with the .GWC file extension to your desktop
(not to "my documents") you can use Golfwits to place the .GWC map file in the
courses folder by selecting Organize... from the File menu in Golfwits. Here are
the steps you take to put the maps in the right folder on the desktop PC:
1. Select Organize... from the File menu in Golfwits
2. Make sure the "Courses" radio button is selected in the Organize Files dialog box
3. Select the "Find files on PC" button
4. When Golfwits finds the course map then select Move to move the file to the courses folder
Note: The courses folder path is shown next to the "Find files on PC" so you can manually
place the map files there too if you like.
5. Select "Refresh" and "OK" buttons
Then you can select the course drop down list to select your course and then select File New
to start using your course map. Now you can view your course maps on the desktop version of Golfwits.
Q: How do I install maps from my PC onto my Palm?
A: After downloading an interactive digital course map to the Golfwits PC "Courses" folder
on your desktop or laptop pc, you must move that course (gwc) file to your PDA by using
your HotSync Manager program on your Desktop PC (the blue and red circled arrows icon).
The "Courses" folder is located at: c:\program files\siscosoft\golfwitspc\courses
The "Organize" tool in Golfwits PC which manages map transfers is not compatible with
devices using the Palm OS (Operating System).
1. Open your HotSync Manager and select "Custom".
2. Highlight "Golfwits".
3. Click on "Change".
4. Highlight the course(s) you want to transfer to your device. *No more than three at a time.*
5. Select the button that says, "Only Transfer Courses to Handheld".
6. Press "OK" and then press "Done".
The next time you HotSync your PDA device the gwc files (maps) will be transferred.
When you open Golfwits on your PDA device select the course you want to view.
If the course map(s) listing does not appear refresh the screen.
Open up the Menu and tap on "New". Fill out the Golfer Profile, and tap "Done".
You are now set to view and use that course map with Palm Golfwits starting with the first hole.
Q: How do I get Golfwits to show up in my HotSync Manager?
A: Please try the following:
1. Un-install the Palm version of Golfwits
2. Remove the Golfwits back-up file under your user ID, "c:\palm\"userid"\backup"
3. Re-install the Palm version of Golfwits
4. HotSync 2 times after you have installed the Palm version
You should be good to go!
Q: How do I install maps from my PC onto my Pocket PC?
A: The Open View menu item is for Golfwits Viewer Files which are different from .GWC course files.
To get the maps from the desktop to the Pocket PC version of Golfwits follow these instructions:
If you do not have Golfwits PC
1. Find the .GWC file on your PC and COPY it.
2. Make sure your Pocket PC device is in the cradle and sync'd with your desktop PC
3. Open Microsoft ActiveSync
4. Select the Explore Icon in Microsoft ActiveSync
5. Double Click the "My Pocket PC" Icon in the list
6. Then go to "Program Files\Siscosoft\PGolfwits\Courses"
7. Paste the .GWC file into the courses folder
OR
Using Golfwits PC follow these instructions:
1. Make sure your Pocket PC device is in the cradle and sync'd with your desktop PC
2. Select Organize... from the File menu in Golfwits for the Desktop
3. Make sure the "Courses" radio button is selected in the Organize Files dialog box
4. Highlight the course you want to copy to the cradled device
5. Select "Copy"
Now you can view your course maps on the Pocket PC version of Golfwits.
To move rounds from the PPC to your desktop, COPY/PASTE the round files from the
MyDocuments/Pgolfwits on the PPC to c:\program files\siscosoft\golfwitspc\rounds on the desktop PC.
Once you have copied the course files to the courses folder, make sure you either quit and
restart Golfwits, or select VIEW/REFRESH from the Golfwits menu to make the courses available to
the device. Then you can select the course drop down list to select your course and then select File
New to start using your course map.
Q: Does Golfwits support the metric system?
A: Golfwits now offers a distance choice between Yards and Metric measurements.
This is found in the Map Options box, accessed through the Tools button on the
Menu Bar.
Q: How can I see which maps are available in my state?
A: Visit our website at www.golfwits.com
Select the Maps menu item, then select advanced search.
Select the state you wish to view
and click on “Search.” You will see which maps have been completed and which
maps may be requested for completion.
Q: Can Golfwits calculate my handicap?
A: Golfwits will not calculate an official USGA Index for you. It can take into
account the handicap or index that you put into it for scoring and statistical
purposes. In order to establish an official USGA Golf Handicap Index you must
follow the guidelines and procedures they advise. Visit their website to see
this information at http://www.usga.com/handicap.
Q: If I only use the Pocket PC or Palm version of Golfwits can I print
out the maps of my played rounds and corresponding statistics?
A: No. You must copy or move that round into the PC version of Golfwits 2.0 to
print out the played maps that we call “Trophy Sheets.” You can copy the
statistics in Golfwits PC 2.0 and paste them into another application such as
Excel for manipulation and printing.
Q: What PDA device do you recommend for golfers?
A: We recommend the HP iPaq series devices.
Q: Will Golfwits work in partnership with a GPS receiver?
A: No. Our maps are not dependent on GPS satellites. Golfers utilize natural
terrain and man-made features along with the Golfwits Distance Markers to
assist in determining where to mark the ball position on the interactive
map.
Q: How do I set penalties in Golfwits?
A: Penalty mode is automatically turned on for strokes into water hazards. With
penalty mode on you can place where you took your drop as you would a regular
shot. Select the type of penalty by dragging back and forth inside the yardage
indicator box. If you need to set a penalty for other strokes, i.e.
out-of-bounds, use the following procedure:
1. Tap on screen/map out of bounds location to set your stroke/ball placement
2. Select your club, if club-tracking option has been selected for that round
3. If not using a Pocket PC Click on "P" button for penalty. If you are using a
Pocket PC tap Tools > Set > Penalty.
4. Tap on screen/map location to set your dropped ball placement
5. Tap the yardage indicator box to set the penalty like you normally set
shots. Select the type of penalty by dragging back and forth inside the yardage
indicator box.
A red "P" should appear where you placed the penalty.
6. Continue with your round. Take your next stroke, set it, select your club,
etc....
Q: Will Golfwits allow you to zoom in on the course?
A: Not at this time. However, you can set the distance remaining to the pin
once you're on the green in standard or metric measurements. You can also
record where you missed your putts (left, Long Right, Short, etc...).
Q: Does Golfwits allow you to export statistical information into other applications?
A: Golfwits for the PC allows you to copy the stats to other applications.
Highlight the stats you want copied and right click to bring up
the context sensitive menu. Then select copy and then paste into Word or Excel.
